The Three-Brotherhood Alliance

There have been new updates in this civil war that have unfolded in the past month. Of the biggest updates, there has been a rebellion formed in Myanmar to rival the military government. This rebellion is called the Three-Brotherhood Alliance which references the fact that this rebellion is an alliance between three different ethnic groups all with the goal of taking down the military government. So far, the Three-Brotherhood Alliance has been able to seize over 100 military outposts as well as many roads and border crossings according to the Washington Post. The Three-Brotherhood Alliance has garnered support from many forging powers such as China which is a large boost for this group especially since the majority of this uprising is happening on the Myanmar-China border. The rebellion has stated that its ultimate goal is to provide safety once again for the Myanmar people and eradicate the military government according to the Asia Times. The government has now responded to this new alliance by saying that the fighting along the border will tear the country apart. The government also responded by sending in fighter jets to the border area that the alliance is seizing and bombed it.  Al Jazeera stated that this alliance is one of the biggest threats so far to the military coup that is now in power. It has also been stated that this new rebellion does not have the manpower on its own to overthrow the military government, however, smaller ethnic groups in the country have been following the alliance's lead and providing more support to the movement.   This new rebellion group is a huge new development in this civil war as it challenges the military authorities' ability to keep control and hopefully, this group will offer a light at the end of this very long tunnel. This military coup has lasted around three years however Myanmar has always been in conflict with itself. If this alliance delivers on its promises, then the outlook of a new stable era in Myanmar is great.

Myanmar Leadership

Myanmar has a very complicated history ever since gaining independence from the British in 1948. A large part of the history of Myanmar is the leaders who have run the country. The current leader of Myanmar is Myint Swe who gained power in February of 2021 via a military coup. Swe also was acting president for a brief stint lasting nine days in March of 2018. Swe is a member of the Union Solidarity and Development party which was founded in 2010, according to Britan nica. The Union Solidarity and Development party is a pro-military party that promotes the ideas of the military coup that took power in 2021 and is vehemently anti- democracy. Swe’s predecessor was Win Myint who was a member of the National League for Democracy Party.  Before the military coup, President Win Myint was in close contact with Aung San Suu Kyi who was the state counselor.
